2024 BlackStars Experience convenes over 2,000 professionals and industry leaders for three days of learning, connections and inspiration in NYC

The BlackStars Experience 2024, hosted by PanaGenius, brought together leaders, innovators, and community members for a transformative event in New York City, celebrating Black achievement, diversity, and leadership across sectors. From inspiring panels to networking mixers and an electrifying awards gala, each moment highlighted the dynamism of Black talent and the shared commitment to shaping the future.

Official Welcome / Kick-Off Party
The Experience took off at The Dean NYC on November 6 with the AfroBeatz & Network Kick-Off Party, an energizing evening where Afrobeat music created a lively backdrop for networking and celebration. Attendees mingled, connecting over shared experiences and aspirations, setting a spirited tone for the days to follow.

Summit, Exhibition, and Workshops
Held at the Metropolitan Pavilion, day two began with check-in and a warm welcome by the BlackStars team, followed by an introduction from executive coach and moderator Dethra Giles. The opening remarks from Dr. Gena Lovett, author and former Boeing executive, set an empowering tone as she shared insights on leadership and growth.

Throughout the day, participants attended sessions featuring influential voices and industry giants. Mathematician Abdon Atangana’s fireside chat with Quita Highsmith, Genentech’s VP & Chief Diversity Officer, explored diversity’s impact in STEM fields, offering inspiration for aspiring scientists and mathematicians.

In another session, Verizon’s Rose Stuckey Kirk, Citi’s Richard Aby, and other corporate leaders discussed their journeys to the C-suite, sharing strategies for navigating and excelling in top-tier leadership roles. Panels on diversity, equity, and inclusion brought forward discussions on allyship and mentorship, with insights from Erika Irish Brown of Citi and JAZZ HOUSE KiDS’ founder Melissa Walker, highlighting the power of support networks.

In addition to leadership panels, sector-specific workshops, including “Seizing the Future” and “Breaking into Tech,” provided attendees with concrete career advice. From investment opportunities in Africa and the Caribbean to financial planning, each session gave professionals actionable strategies to create positive impact within their fields and communities. Derrick Johnson, President of the NAACP, delivered the closing keynote, underscoring the importance of community support and the commitment to equity and justice.

The day concluded with the BlackStars Connect networking mixer, a vibrant gathering of food, music, and dialogue that further reinforced connections and wrapped up the summit on a high note.

BlackStars Awards Gala
The prestigious BlackStars Awards Gala took center stage at Gotham Hall, honoring leaders, creators, and innovators who have made significant contributions in their industries. The evening opened with a cocktail reception and red carpet, giving honorees, guests, and attendees the opportunity to connect over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

The awards ceremony, marked by emotional speeches and inspiring stories, celebrated the accomplishments of trailblazers making a profound difference in their respective fields.

Following the awards, an after-party at The Dean NYC capped off the evening in high spirits, filled with dancing and camaraderie.

Looking Ahead: Empowering Black Excellence
The BlackStars Experience 2024 encapsulated the potential of Black leadership, innovation, and allyship. From the energetic launch party to the summit’s insightful sessions, culminating in the awards gala, each day emphasized the power of connection, community, and commitment to a brighter, more inclusive future. Attendees left not only inspired but also equipped with connections and resources to drive change, uplift their communities, and continue advancing Black excellence.
